Here’s our advice for setting and meeting long-term, “someday” goals.

Let’s talk a bit about setting big goals. When you’re setting a big “someday” goal, I want you to think:

“What is the thing I can do someday that is in alignment with my purpose such that everything else is easy or unnecessary?”

Before you write it down, stretch it. If it’s a number, double it; if it’s a level of achievement, jump to the next level. After that, you need to exercise “goal setting to the now,” which shows you want to do right now to work towards that “someday goal.”

So think: “What is one thing I can do in the next five years to be on track to achieve that goal?” Based on this five-year goal, think of what you need to do this year to be on pace to make your five-year goal. Then, based on your this-year goal, what do you need to do this month?

“Before you write it down, stretch it.”

We’re going to break it down even more. What can you do this week to help meet that monthly goal? What can you do today to meet that weekly goal? What can you do right now to get that daily goal? Go meet that last goal, right now!
